What to do in Cornwall this Winter

The winter months are officially here and that means cold wind, bringing out the thermals, and rummaging through the shed to find the de-icer for the car. Cheer up though, it’s not all doom and gloom. This time of the year often means hot chocolates by the fire, Christmas lights slowly starting to be displayed and a crisp winter breeze.

Cornwall is known for attracting tourists by the dozens in the summer months. Heaving beaches, bustling fishing villages, and the general hum of tourists often brings Cornwall alive. But we seem to forget that Cornwall is just as beautiful in the winter as it is in the summer. And there are just as many things to do too!

Wrap up warm and dive in with us as we take a look at just some of the ample activities you can do.

Ice skating at Eden
Fine-tune your figure-of-eight at the Eden Project ice rink this winter. Skate away under the famous Eden biomes and take in the magical wintery atmosphere. You’ll find the skate rink all decked out in glittery snowflakes and trees wrapped in dazzling lights, a perfect ambience for an evening of skating.

A walk along the beach
Beaches are quieter in the winter since few want to brave the chilly oncoming wind. That is exactly why going for a walk on the beach around this time is perfect. Gear up in your coats, hats, and scarves and see what the beach becomes under the frosty skies of winter. Now of course is also the perfect time to let your pooches have a run around on the sand.

Late Night Shopping
Tis the season for the bustling Christmas markets to open again. As soon as December hits, Truro becomes alive in the evening. Every Wednesday you’ll find all the shops open and rows of stalls snaking along the cobbled pathways of the town centre. From trinkets to the inviting smell of fresh doughnuts, you’ll find pretty much all you need to wrap up those last-minute Christmas gifts.

See the Lights
Everyone loves a bit of sparkly lights, right? Cornwall illuminates during Christmas and they are definitely worthtaking a look at. Each village and town has their own traditions, whether it is the local residents creating all the lights themselves or having a big festive lights countdown. One of the most popular locations is the Eden Project where a pathway of lights leads you to the illuminated biomes. You can also head to Padstow where they celebrate a Christmas festival with illuminations and a lantern parade.

Festive Drinks Menu
Did someone say pumpkin spiced everything? The chilly weather brings along with it the perfect opportunity to enjoy a warm drink. You’ll often find café’s coming up with creative festive menus to keep our tastebuds tingling from sweet treats to hot (and cold) drinks to keep us going as the temperature plummets. With a plethora of coffee shops in Cornwall, we can often be spoilt for choice. So, what would your order be?

And of course, a lovely warm curry is part of that perfect recipe to keep you warm this winter in Cornwall. From spicy sizzlers to mild kormas, we’ve got you covered here at The Shanaz.
